Wisconsin Girl Scout returns home after serious car crash

In most communities in Wisconsin, there are people who are dedicated to community service. This dedication can be displayed in many ways, but for one Girl Scout troop it was shown through the adoption of a highway. The troop picked up trash in the area they adopted. Unfortunately, their gesture turned to tragedy due to a car crash that resulted in multiple fatalities.

The incident happened on a day in early November. According to reports, the troop was picking up trash by the roadway. Unfortunately, police say that a 21-year-old driver and his passenger were "huffing vapors" from a can of keyboard cleaner. The driver reportedly crossed the centerline and entered a ditch, striking four girls and their leader.

Three of the scouts and their leader were killed in the collision. The fourth scout was recently released from the hospital. Reports indicate that she suffered serious injuries in the accident, including a displaced pelvis, two broken legs, a broken cheek bone and a variety of bruises and cuts; she also underwent open heart surgery. The driver now faces multiple criminal charges, including homicide by intoxicated use of vehicle and hit-and run.

As is often the case, the community appears to be rallying around the injured Wisconsin girl and her family, helping them by donating to a fundraising campaign. However, medical bills in combination with the time her parents may miss from work while they provide care could quickly become overwhelming. To help with these financial hardships, many victims of a car crash -- including surviving family members in the event of a fatality -- choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the parties deemed responsible.
